I thought of taking this first still life when I walked in my kitchen and I saw the number of different colors in this bowl of fruit. After that I knew I needed some good lighting to really brighten and bring out the colors. I saw my deck outside had some great lighting and the worn down brown wood made a really good background to the photo. After setting up the bowl outside I decided to put the lemons on the outside and leave the apples in the middle because the bright red makes the photo more focused in the center and the yellow is a good supporting color. I think it was important for me to document this photo by taking a picture of it because I just think it looks really nice, the color come together to make it very aesthetically pleasing so I wanted to take a picture of it.
For this still life I noticed that I had a number of different medals with a lot of different colors and I thought bringing them together would make a great photo. To set up this photo I placed all of the medals on a table next to my window so I had proper lighting that really brought out the colors of the medals. I am very proud of these medals as they represent huge academic accomplishments to me. I used photography to preserve these medals for the future. This way I can always have a photograph of them with me to remind myself of what I have achieved.

I wanted to take this photo after I looked outside and saw how green the grass was, and how colorful all of my soccer balls outside were. I thought the green of the grass would really come together with the colors of the soccer balls because they aren't too bright and it provides a great background for their suppressed colors. The soccer balls to me represent both fun and work. I really enjoy playing soccer a lot, but it also takes a lot of work to play at a high level. I think these soccer balls do a great job of representing this amount of work it takes because they are very worn down, as if someone was practicing and working with them a lot. I documented these soccer balls through photography not just because they looked nice, but also because the represent the work you must do to be a great player.
I decided to take this photo because I was doing my homework and I noticed the colors of the folders, so I thought it would make a nice still life. I positioned the folders in the back so they would add a bright element of color as the background. I then left the notebook blank to represent a blank canvas or just open thinking. I believe this still life represents everyday work, and the basic life of a student, how I go home and do homework every night. I decided to take this photo because it is important to remember the basic constants in our lives, and doing homework is a constant in my life.
For my final still life I got together a couple pins that I had on my desk. I liked the color of the pins and also the way that they reflected the light. In my editing I brought out the colors a little more as well as the background, which gave it more of a warm feeling and enhanced the look of the photograph. This is another still life that to me represents my accomplishments, each pin represents a different thing, the soccer ball is for varsity soccer, and the others are for various achievements in DECA. I felt it important for me to take this still life because it is another way for me to remind myself that I have actually accomplished some impressive things so far in life. |
